Reflections on Chapter 3
Excerpts from the book are in bold text. Flip Your Classroom by Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams This book was the basis of my research, because the ideas developed by Bergmann and Sams were so inspirational to me. I watched their TED talks and YouTube videos, read parts of their books, and have included them in my list of resources for the website. As a result of this inspiration, I chose to try flipping my middle school mathematics classroom. As I have gone through the program, I have shared my experiences and my own excitement as I gradually flipped one lesson. And having done so, I have had cause to repeat numerous times what the authors state in their first paragraph: that I can never go back to the old paradigms of instruction.

Wow, what a poignant post. I specifically wanted to read your blog post this week, as I know that your focus last semester was on flipping your classroom. I like how you took parts from the article, and then responded directly to them. In addition, I agree with what you wrote about celebrating technology. We should not have students put away their devices. Instead, we should find a way to incorporate all technology into our classrooms!

I love your post and how you took your personal experience with flipping and compared it with excerpts from the book. I think it's so important for people to know that flipped classrooms are a combination of working with the teacher and technology, not just one or the other. Many people think that if flipped classrooms are going to push teachers out of the classroom but that is not true at all. In all actuality, if teachers weren't part of the process, the model wouldn't be a true flipped classroom. Thank you for sharing your experiences doing this difficult model and comparing it to the book we all have to read, it really makes things more grounded for me.
